So you have bought yourself your first cycad and may be wondering what now? Can I just plant it in the ground when I get home? What does establish mean? Do I have the right Ground? ? Is there something I should mix in with the ground? This is just a few questions you may have that will all be answered today.
Now first things first it is important to know that your cycad is established in other words been planted in the pot or ground for at least a year or more. One way of know a plant is established is feeling if the cycad is stiff in the ground. If not I would recommend staying away from the cycad as there is a lot of risk and uncertainty involved.
You have confirmed you cycad is established and want to replant it in the ground or in a new or bigger pot. Here is some Tips that I would recommend you follow in order to have the most success in ensuring that your cycad growth is optimal.

Step #1 - How Big Should The Hole or New Pot Be?
If you want to plant your cycad in a hole you would want the hole to be at least 2 times the size of the pot it was in, to ensure there is enough space for the mix you are going to use.
For a pot you just want to ensure the new pot is bigger than the previous pot.
Step #2 - The Golden Rule Of The Mix
Now you are going to take a third of the of the ground you just dug up a third of compost an a third of slilca and mix it together.
Optional:
When that is done you can also add some fertilizer(preferably slow release granules) and some bone mil to the mix to improve the mix even more.
Step #3 - Getting The Plant Out Of The Pot.
You would think It is quite obvious to get the plant out of the pot but it is actually a quite elegant slow process. This is because you want to ensure that the roots is unharmed.
The plant either comes in a pot or a bag:
For a PLASTIC BAG the easiest way is to cut the bottom out and place the plant in the hole and just remove the rest of the bag. Or if done carefully you can just tear the bag open.
For a POT try and flip the pot over and shake it out. IF you are scared of harming the plant because the pot is to heavy or the leaves it too long to flip over, it is recommended to brake the pot open and extract the plant.
Step #4 - Filling The Hole
This step is pretty straight forward just fill hole with your mix around the cycad make sure part of the stem is in the ground. It is good to have some of the stem in the ground as this will help keep the stem damp.
Step #5 - Water thoroughly
Be sure to water the plant thoroughly the first time after it is planted to make sure the cycad will settle nicely.
In Conclusion
If you follow all these steps and handle the cycad with care the chances of the cycad growing will be almost as easy as breathing , just remember to water you cycad weekly and that is basically it.
